Born in Sweden, on 1983, singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson, alias The Tallest Man on Earth, has released 7 albums between 2008 and 2023 (discography here). Before his solo carrer, he sang in a band called Montezumas. His indie-folk, inspired mainly by Bob Dylan, also makes him stand among contemporary musicians exploring similar territory such as Iron & Wine, Damien Rice, Sujvan Stevens, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Neko Case, Father John Misty etc.
Joined by NYC’s string quartet Brooklyn Rider and by Amsterdam’s Sinfonietta, Tallest Man On Earth tours the Nederlands in January of 2024 for a total of 12 concerts in the main cities of the country. Tradionally, the 22-musicians ensemble from Amsterdam, the Sinfonietta, at the beggining of each year does the “Broader Than Classical” in accompaniment of musical artists from non-classical genres (such as folk, blues, soul etc.): in 2021, for instance, Rufus Wainwright and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta toured together and recorded and album (hear it on Spotify).
Divided in 3 acts, the concert includes orchestrated versions of The Tallest Man On Earth’s songs “Sagres”, “New Religion”, “In Your Garden Still”, “There’s No Leaving Now”, “Every Little Heart”, “Foothills”, “The Gardener”, “Rivers”, “Major League”, “Love Is All” and “Dreamer”, along with renditions of songs by Bob Dylan and Adele. Instrumental pieces are also executed, including Rune T. Sorensen’s “Shine You No More”, Edvarg Grieg’s “String Quartet in G, op. 27”, Gabriel Kahane’s “American Studies”, A. Schnelezer’s “Adolescente Apollo” and Jean Sibelius “The Swan of Tuonela”.
